  1. Please don’t turn Exmouth into a cheap seaside town, Exmouth is what it is, a lovely natural setting with lovely views and a lovely sandy beach. Some of the present facilities are looking a bit shabby and could do with upgrading, but in a sympathetic way. Where another hotel has been suggested I think a new entertainment venue would be more suitable and could be a replacement for the pavilion, which is looking tired and it would be to the benefit of all ages. I think a museum on the seafront would be of interest to visitors of all ages. Please don’t allow anymore food outlets to open, as it seems the whole of Exmouth and the country is getting more and more food outlets, Exmouth has enough already. I hope the beach huts and sand dunes are going to be protected if any new development does happen as they make the character of the sea front. I have always thought if Exmouth introduced a park and ride from the Maer car park it would give visitors the opportunity to get into the town easier and also venues along the seafront. Please don’t spoil Exmouth, it just needs to be tidied up in some places.

  2. This comment is a bit late but Sadie might like to check out the ‘waterpark’ element of the development as Exmouth Vision haven’t clarified it here though they will have read it I am sure. To quote from EDDC’s own ‘consultation’ document “Our market research has told us that it would be highly unlikely that a private business would want to build and run a swimming pool, water slides or an ice rink”.
In short Sadie, you may have been misled. If you are thinking it may be anything like this at Paignton ( http://quaywest.splashdownwaterparks.co.uk/ ) then I fear you will be very disappointed- but I doubt you will be alone.

  3. Trying to regenerate Exmouth can only be for the benefit of all who live and visit. However it would be nice to see EDDC having something other than a “budget” view of Exmouth. For example, their preferred choices of Premier Inn and Asda as providers of choice for two of Exmouth’s best locations seem to indicate that EDDC see Exmouth as the “low cost” location in East Devon to be provided only with low end Brands. So let’s hope there is a higher aspiration for the Splash which does not involve the Splash becoming the location for “fast food” and “slot machine” facilities.

    1. EDDC chose Premier Inn from the formal proposals that emerged from the open marketing process; we did not choose those who decided to put forward a formal bid in the first place.

      1. Whilst that is true, it does not alter the fact that EDDC did not need to grant the proposal to Premier Inn just because they applied.
I can only guess that the proposal drafted by EDDC lacked specific details of what was needed.

      2. and of course James, Cllr Diviani has assured us that the fact that the selling agents also acted for the buyers was not an issue!

  4. I do agree with you Sadie some ideas are fantastic for young families. My problem is that EDDC have done very little in the past, when we have been frustrated when told that Exmouth is as good as most other Sea side resorts in the West country and this was when money was more available.
Now EDDC has no money for improvements other then selling off what we regard as the few resources Exmouth has, and in some cases worth keeping.
Even so we should do more for young Children, and we have the room on our front to provide such attractions as shown in the details of the proposed splash zone.
My problem is that many facilities open to the public are going to be pay-to-enter.
We do not know what the costings are, but EDDC will not subsidize such a complex and local families and visitors alike have not got bottom-less-pockets, It surprises me when i see how much a swing ride cost for a mother giving a small child a treat,
So please be aware nothing which our EDDC do for us in the future will come cheap.

  5. I could not agree with you more Sadie. I am not a young mum any more but Exmouth needs updating.

  6. Hi

I think the redevelopment sounds exciting. The idea of a waterpark is fantastic and would put Exmouth on the map. The only waterpark locally is at Paignton, there isnt even a fun pool in the vicinity anywhere. The nearest one which was at Plymouth has closed down. I think Exeter and the surrounding area are in need of more big attractions such as a waterpark. The ideas will be fantastic for tourism but also for the locals, it will benefit everyone. There are a lot of young families in this area that will benefit from this.
